Pudgy Penguins announces ‘Pudgy World’ Web3 game on zkSync blockchain

LATEST DEVELOPMENT UPDATE Pudgy Penguins, a prominent NFT project, recently revealed the next phase of its evolution: Pudgy World, a Web3 game leveraging the Ethereum Layer 2 network zkSync Era. Described as an “immersive, digital environment,” this new venture marks a significant stride for the popular NFT brand.

The announcement comes amid a period of notable success for Pudgy Penguins. Opensea data indicates a nearly twofold increase in the floor price of its NFTs over the past two weeks. Additionally, the brand’s expansion into Walmart stores, with toys available in approximately 2,000 locations across the United States, underscores the project’s growing influence.

Pudgy World’s alpha release, scheduled for the next year, will be accessible to all gamers. However, special perks await Pudgy NFT holders and those who purchase Pudgy Penguin toys. Details regarding gameplay remain limited, but the company has introduced two “hero characters,” Pudgy and Peaches, who will serve as guides through the virtual adventures. Both characters feature prominently in the animated launch trailer.

NFT holders will not only enjoy exclusive in-game benefits but also receive royalties from products associated with the game’s ecosystem. Notably, the project faced a shake-up in leadership when the original founders, who proposed a metaverse game, were ousted following community dissatisfaction with unfulfilled promises.

The choice of zkSync as the Layer 2 network is strategic for Pudgy Penguins. The company cites zkSync as the first zkEVM and the fastest proof system in production capable of scaling Ethereum to accommodate a million developers and a billion users. According to the company, zkSync stands out as the ideal platform to support the success of Pudgy World and introduce blockchain technology to the next generation of mobile gamers within the Pudgy community.
